For Owen Liechti, racing at Kingsville MX began so early in life that he cannot remember his first time on the track. From 2005 through 2012, Kingsville—formerly Challenge Traxx—was a familiar part of growing up.

Owen and his family usually drove to the track on race day, especially for the Friday Night Series. Those evenings gave young riders a place to compete, improve, and spend time with other families who shared their love of motocross.

Among all the events Owen raced at Kingsville, the Dealers Cup stands out most.

“That race meant something for sure,” Owen recalled.

His favorite part of the track was the finish line positioned in front of the bleachers. It was the perfect setting for an exciting finish, giving spectators a close-up view as riders raced toward the checkered flag.

KTM motorcycles were among Owen’s favorites, but his memories of Kingsville extend well beyond any particular bike, race, or track feature. At the heart of his story is the relationship between the Liechti and Wohlberg families.

“RJ has always been great to the Liechti family,” Owen said. “We grew up racing and supporting the track, and we still have the same friendship we did when I was a young kid racing every Friday night.”

Years after Owen’s Friday nights at Kingsville, that friendship remains—a testament to the community RJ and the Wohlberg family created around the track.

For Owen, Kingsville MX was more than somewhere his family went racing. It was part of his childhood and the beginning of friendships that have lasted long after the final checkered flag.
